Can Self-Care Be That Easy?
My car inspection is due, and I’m sitting here at the auto mechanic waiting for them to complete my annual responsibility as a car owner. This is a happy moment for me because it demonstrates my commitment to self-care. Wait…how is a trip to the mechanic be considered self-care? Self-care is not all pedicures and meditation time. It is the willingness to handle the things that affect your life like paying bills on time, making doctor appointments, taking your medications or vitamins daily and making a nutritious meal. Self-care is any activity we do deliberately to take care of our mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and physical health. So absolutely, getting our vehicles inspected or serviced on time can reduce anxiety which can affect our mental health in a beneficial way. We don’t want to carry around the worry of a possible ticket. Following through on my car inspection provides me peace of mind and to me, that is a form of self-care regardless if this place smells like tires.
